About J.P. Walker

J.P. Walker (b.1974, Burlington, VT, USA) lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been creating art for as long as he can remember – with early memories of painting landscapes on slate rock found on the beach of a childhood campground. As a teenager, one of J.P.’s watercolor paintings was selected to hang in the state capital and for the first time, he found a passion for creating art of all kinds. This passion was supported by his Visual Arts Teacher, Vivian Service who helped guide the beginning stages of his life as an artist and designer.

J.P. was accepted to the Atlanta College of Art & Design at the Woodruff Art Center with a fine art portfolio but he found himself enthralled by the world of graphic design. He soon changed his major and after his first year in Atlanta, J.P. transferred to the Art Institute of Boston where he graduated with a B.A. in Graphic Design and a minor in Illustration.

While J.P. continued to paint and develop his style after graduation, it was his new advertising degree that brought him to the beautiful Southwest. J.P. accepted a job as Art Director at one of New Mexico’s largest advertising agencies at the time, Strascina & Partners in Albuquerque. Throughout the next 3 decades J.P. worked his way through the advertising and marketing industry at multiple local and regional advertising agencies. In 2006 he opened his own commercial design company, Monsoon Design in Santa Fe, NM which he continues to manage with his always supportive wife and partner, Marin (Rin) Walker.

Throughout his creative design career, J.P. always found time in front of the easel – painting from the inspiration around him. The beautiful American Southwest landscapes and the incredible wild life that call the same area home. As J.P. and Rin started traveling more, the subject of his artwork started to reflect some of those destinations and inspirational moments. His impressionist style with thick, purposeful stokes and bright color pallet help the viewer feel like they are part of the painting and part of the experience that is captured.

Today J.P. continues his artistic journey – always growing as an artist and finding inspiration from people and places around him.
